A family affair... threshing wheat near Komalty, early 1930s.
our story:
In 1892, John and Marie Weigandt left their home country of Russia and immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. They settled in the countryside near Komalty, Oklahoma where they raised wheat, cotton and, of course, children. The work ethic they brought with them allowed them to not only survive, but prosper. As time went on, farm equipment evolved, but the family desire to make an earnest living through nurturing the land did not. Fast forward four generations to the present day in the same region near Komalty, and that mission has not changed: produce the best grain we can, while taking care of the soil from which it came.
In recent history, much about farming has changed. New methods of production, new insecticides and herbicides make farming easier and tasks quicker, but at what cost? As time goes on, it seems more and more people are having health problems at younger ages. We at Komalty Grain & Milling believe the foundation of good health is rooted in good, clean food. That's why we pledge to never use herbicides or insecticides on our grain, because if we wouldn't want to eat it, why should you? Sure, our methods are a little different and require more effort, but to us it's all worth it. We take pride in doing things the old-fashioned way, the way our ancestors did it. With their faith, determination, and the farm equipment passed down to us, we intend to make a difference in the health and lives of others. We would be thrilled to have you along for the ride!
